Howard J. Coffin, author of three Vermont Civil War books has made more than 200 lectures around Vermont. A seventh-generation Vermonter and a Montpelier resident, Coffin has been honored by the Vermont legislature for his "efforts to record and preserve Vermont's Civil War history." Once a political reporter/ press secretary, Coffin is also an effective advocate and commission member for the preservation of Civil War battlefields.
His book, "Full Duty", was the first history of Vermont in the Civil War published since 1886. "Guns Over Champlain Valley", co-authored and recently published, brings decisive historic military actions in that area alive for the reader.
