Forney, a Pownal resident for 13 years, was born in North Carolina and graduated from UVM. Her love of the Arctic began when she was a child listening to her father’s stories of being in Iceland during WWII. When returning from a trip to Scotland, her plane flew over the southern tip of Greenland and she promised herself to one day "be down there". Her trip taken during August 2005 was a promise kept.  Forney, with photographs, examples of Inuit art and maps, acquainted her audience with this remote and yet beautiful part of the world she visited and where she hopes to return someday for a longer stay!

Baffin Island and Greenland was the second of  "Pownal Travels" presentations  at the Solomon Wright Public Library  on Sunday March 5, 2006. Pownal resident, Doreen Forney narrated a recent exploration/ tour of the world's largest and fifth largest island that straddles the Arctic Circle.
